Sustainability

In a world where so many materials create lasting environmental problems, Forestmark Timber lets you build with confidence. You can rest easy, knowing you've made a choice that's not only responsible for today, but also for tomorrow.

We source from small pockets of naturally occurring exotic hardwoods — species that compete with native trees. By working with non-native trees already present in the landscape, we reduce pressure on their native relatives, supporting ecosystem restoration.

We call it restorative timber.

True sustainability goes far beyond carbon emissions — and we understand this more deeply than most. Forestmark was founded by Joseph Merz of the Merz Institute, a respected international, interdisciplinary research organisation.

Research

At the cutting edge of global sustainability, the findings of the Merz Institute are sought after by governments and institutions around the world. Its core work explores the behavioural and systemic roots of anthropogenic ecological overshoot.

Overshoot is a phenomenon better known by its symptoms — like climate change and biodiversity loss. The natural world doesn't care for our words; it responds to our actions. Merz' research ensures that at Forestmark, we act on what truly matters.
